ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Elsewhere Shakespeare is a punk band masquerading as a theatre company. They produce minimally-rehearsed popup Shakespeare in unconventional spaces like bars, breweries, and basements. Their 90-minute shows are free and audience participation is encouraged. Each cast member will receive the script at least a month in advance so they can memorize their lines, and then the whole cast assembles for two days of rehearsal with no director and then mounts a single performance. It's fast and loose and just like Shakespeare intended.
ABOUT THE PLAY
The Winter's Tale is a rarely-produced play from later in Shakespeare's career. It's a fairy tale about a king who falsely believes his wife has been unfaithful to him. When the queen and their son the prince die of heartbreak at the accusation of infidelity, it seems like there's no chance of redemption. But a bear, a magical statue, and a long-lost daughter offer a glimmer of a hope for a happily ever after.
